EVEREST BASE CAMP TREK WITH GOKYO LAKE VISIT

Two people in outdoor gear standing and smiling near a large boulder at Everest Base Camp, 5364 meters above sea level, with snow-covered mountains and prayer flags in the background.

The mountains may bring us together, but it is the shared journey that stays with us long after we return home.

Overview

A once-in-a-lifetime journey through the heart of the Everest region — from the legendary trail to Everest Base Camp to the sacred turquoise lakes of Gokyo.

This is not a classic expedition-style trek where one guide leads and everyone simply follows. Inside Altitude creates this journey as a shared mountain experience: a small, equal team moving through the Himalayas together, making thoughtful decisions, adapting to conditions, and taking time to truly live each day of the journey.

We meet in Kathmandu and take it from there as a team. The route, pace and daily rhythm are shaped around the group, with enough flexibility built in for acclimatisation, rest, weather, energy levels and individual needs.

Along the way, we walk through Sherpa villages, high Himalayan valleys, monasteries, glacial landscapes and some of the most iconic places in the mountain world: Namche Bazaar, Everest Base Camp, Kala Patthar, Cho La Pass, Gokyo Lakes and Renjo La Pass.

This journey is about more than reaching famous places. It is about moving mindfully through the mountains, learning from the region, supporting each other, and experiencing the Himalayas with depth, respect and presence.

Duration

Three weeks.

Group Size

Minimum 2 guests · Maximum 8 guests

We keep the group small so the experience remains personal, flexible and team-based.

Price

This journey is organised on a voluntary contribution basis.

There is no fixed package price and no large upfront payment for accommodation or meals. Each participant covers their own costs during the journey, including accommodation, food, permits, transport and personal expenses.

At the end of the trek, participants may offer a voluntary thank-you contribution to the person facilitating the journey, in recognition of their time, preparation, experience and support.

This keeps the experience simple, transparent and accessible, while preserving the spirit of a shared mountain journey rather than a commercial expedition package.

Additional Cost

You should budget for:

  • international flights to and from Nepal;

  • accommodation and meals in Kathmandu;

  • domestic flights from Kathmandu to Lukla - if we decide to use these;

  • trekking permits and national park fees;

  • accommodation and meals during the trek;

  • personal travel insurance covering high-altitude trekking;

  • personal equipment;

  • snacks, drinks, Wi-Fi and hot showers where available;

  • local porter, climbing guide or additional service arranged individually.

Budget style can be discussed before departure and adjusted within the group. Where possible, you may choose different accommodation standards according to personal comfort and budget.

Fitness Level

Challenging.

This trek requires solid hiking fitness, good endurance and the ability to walk for several hours on consecutive days at altitude.

You should be comfortable with:

  • long trekking days;

  • rough mountain trails;

  • basic accommodation;

  • cold mornings and evenings;

  • high altitude above 5,000 m;

  • carrying a small daypack;

  • changing weather and simple mountain conditions.

No technical climbing experience is required for the main trek, but you must be prepared for a serious high-altitude journey and should arrive with a good base level of fitness.

Experience Style

Small group. Low budget. High awareness.

This journey is designed for people who want something more personal and meaningful than a standard commercial trek.

We move as a team, not as clients following a flag. Everyone is part of the experience. We discuss decisions together, adapt when needed, and respect the pace of the group.

The style is simple, flexible and mindful:

  • shared decision-making;

  • no unnecessary luxury;

  • no rigid expedition atmosphere;

  • careful acclimatisation;

  • time to enjoy the mountains, not just reach checkpoints;

  • respect for local culture and communities;

  • space for learning, reflection and real connection;

  • support between participants;

  • freedom to keep the journey affordable and personal.

This is for people who want to experience the Everest region deeply: not rushed, not passive, not packaged — but lived.
